Candle business
Dhoop & Wick
Patan, Lalitpur
Started on a kitchen stove during load-shedding, now lighting up living rooms across the valley.
Sabina began pouring soy wax candles the winter the power cuts got bad, mostly so her own apartment would smell like something other than kerosene. She scented the first batch with sal wood shavings from her grandmother's old chest, gave a few away, and kept getting asked where to buy more. Three years on, Dhoop & Wick still hand-pours every candle in small batches, still uses that same sal-wood scent as the signature line, and still answers every custom order message herself — because the whole point was never to scale past the part where someone tells her what smell reminds them of home.
